Aug 28: Seven years ago, Sidharth Malhotra and Ektaa R Kapoor came together for a very different kind of Hindi commercial story. Now, the actor-producer duo is heading somewhere far more mysterious, from the rough-edged world of Jabariya Jodi to the folklore fantasy of The Vvaan.
Their reunion is interesting because the two projects couldn't be more different in flavour.
Jabariya Jodi, set against Bihar's notorious pakadua vivah practice, brought Sidharth and Parineeti Chopra together in a romantic comedy built around the kidnapping of eligible bachelors and forced marriages. Sidharth played Abhay Singh, a man who finds himself caught in the very system he has grown up around.
Seven years later, Vvaan puts Sidharth in an entirely different world. Here, the actor enters a mysterious forest governed by rules, legends and supernatural forces, alongside Tamannaah Bhatia in their first pairing. The teaser introduces Vvaan as a forbidden space where entering after sunset comes with a chilling warning and Sidharth's character is the one who chooses to cross that line.
For Ektaa, too, the reunion is a sharp shift. From producing a quirky, rooted romantic comedy with Sidharth as leading man, she is now backing an ambitious folklore fantasy that aims to create an entirely new world around Indian mythology and local lores.
The connection between the two projects, however, may lie in their common faith in stories with Indian settings. With Jabariya Jodi, that meant taking a real social phenomenon and turning it into mainstream entertainment. With Vvaan, the canvas becomes considerably larger, with folklore, fantasy, mystery, adventure and the supernatural converging around a world that the makers are building from scratch.
So, after seven years, Sidharth and Ektaa aren't simply reuniting. They're returning with a film that takes their earlier collaboration's rootedness and throws it into an entirely new universe, with their glorious ambition of trying something new each time!
Backed by some of the country's most distinctive storytellers, The Vvaan brings together TVF’s Arunabh Kumar, director Deepak Mishra and Ektaa Kapoor for a commercial film that attempts to take Indian folklore into a new cinematic space. While its world is rooted in folklore and fantasy, the film brings together adventure, mystery and humour to shape itself as a complete family entertainer. The ambition extends beyond the film, with The Legend of Vvaan comic book already introducing audiences to the larger folklore surrounding its universe.
Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with TVF and 11.11 Production, The Vvaan stars Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia. Written by Arunabh Kumar and directed by Deepak Mishra, with Manu Anand as DOP and Visual Director, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Niraj Kothari.
The Vvaan arrives in cinemas on September 25, 2026, promising a big-screen fantasy folklore experience where the visuals, music, mystery and scale come together to create a world audiences will want to step into.
